The Founder's Wicked Road
An Insightful Point of View of our Founder’s Story at Wicked Salem Tours
Welcome to The Founder's Wicked Road
I’ve been expecting your arrival, the timing is precisely as anticipated when you’d find it. Welcome to the Founder’s Wicked Road. This is my own personal blog at Wicked Salem Tours as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer. Let’s track this from the beginning..
1987
My name is Mark Anthony DellaPenna Jr., I was born on November 14th, 1987 and was raised in the North End of Boston, Massachusetts.
This is not just my life story; it’s the story of how every challenge I faced shaped the mission and heartbeat of Wicked Salem Tours.
My life was actually somewhat of an interesting and unique miracle in itself. I probably shouldn’t even be alive, unless it was for a reason.
There’s no such thing as a coincedence in life, business or anything in between.
I was born without an immediate Mother or a Father, my Father was deceased three months before I was born, and my Mother gave me up for adoption secretly. No one even knew I existed. That’s how my story began.
Until one day, the head nurse at the hospital realized that there was a clerical error on my birth certificate from the old and dated private adoption systems in Massachusetts, and that my Mother had fled the hospital without leaving a contact number. The nurse asked the Doctor what the next best course of action was, and the rest of the story is even crazier.
The Doctor turned to the head nurse and said, “Do you remember when you were having trouble in your personal life and came to us for the position to help you take care of your own son?” The head nurse responded emotionally, “Yes, I do Doctor.” The Doctor than told the head nurse to find out as much information as they can, and attempt to contact someone else in the family, as the day to have me legally adopted by people interested was coming to an end.
The head nurse began attempting to look up a relative or someone related to me to get the correct information before I would be signed over to adoption services permanently. Because it was 1987, there was no internet, no social media, and very limited resources on finding individual public information. Finally, the head nurse landed on a matched name that was put onto my birth certificate, Mark DellaPenna. The head nurse called the home listed under the name, and it was my father’s mother, Jacqueline that took the call. The head nurse explained that there was a Mark DellaPenna at their hospital and that they needed to collect the correct information to process. This confused Jacqueline, as she had just lost her son (My father) a few months prior. Jacqueline angrily hung up, frustrated at the hospital for continuing to bother her.
Pressure mounted even more, as the head Nurse was left confused and defeated. She continued to try and call back, until there was no dial-tone at all. The next day, she’d try again, and again, and again. Jacqueline stopped answering the incoming calls, assured that they were regarding my father with the same name. In the middle of it all, was me with only a few days before I’d be adopted into the system. The head Nurse frantically returned to the Doctor to explain the confusion and inability to get ahold of my immediate family. The Doctor reminded the Nurse about the time were she herself was distraught, scared and stuck trying to figure out how to take care of her son before he had promoted her to the position of head nurse. The Doctor looked at the head Nurse and said plainly, “Don’t give up.” The head Nurse understood what was at stake and went back to her office with emotional fury.
The head Nurse continued to call over-and-over, not able to get a signal or leave an answering machine message. She didn’t give up, reminded by her own journey and from the inspiring talk that the Doctor had with her, she continued trying. Finally, by a miracle of chance, Jacqueline answered the phone unknowingly that it was the hospital. The head Nurse skipped the professional formality this time, and screeched out, “It’s a child! There is a child here at the hospital by the name of Mark DellaPenna and we need the correct information before processing for adoption. My grandmother Jacqueline stopped short, shocked and confused to reply, “A child? Mark? My son was 27 and just passed away, you’re making a mistake, please stop calling here!” Right before she hung up, the head Nurse told her, “There is an infant child here by the name of Mark DellaPenna.” My grandmother Jacqueline responded with ‘I’ll be right there!”, hung up the phone and drove to the hospital to take me out of the system as my legal parent and guardian.
Eventually, the confusion was cleared up. My grandmother Jacqueline went to great lengths to thank the hospital staff for not giving up. That’s how my grandmother Jacqueline saved my life from a path that may have ended up very differently for me. I’m eternally grateful for that. From that point out, I was raised by my immediate father’s side of the family and grew up with my grandmother, my father’s brother and my father’s sister. I referred to them as my mother, brother and sister, because they are.
My childhood was always fun, happy and really interesting. Especially in the early 90’s as a kid living in the North End of Boston. It was like no other place on earth. I had to learn how to communicate with adults early on in life to navigate through the city safely, and the neighborhood that I grew up in had a very strong sense of Italian pride. It’s nothing like it is now in modern day times, back then it was one of the safest places you could imagine. It definitely shaped my inner-confidence and the way that I viewed the rest of the world.
I always had good grades, was really smart for my age and would stick-out in school. I loved learning, drawing, creating, reading and writing. Boston was a place that encapsulated my imagination. I love Boston.
As a man, no woman will ever love you unconditionally in the same way as your mother. Remember that.

Early Business Development
On June 18th of 2024 is when our business journey began developing Wicked Salem Tours.
We initially developed a strategy with a temporary use concept for the sole purpose of reconnaissance. By using an alternative branding strategy to what would become the original in time through testing and using early feedback to gather information for long term planning, we also needed to see how the market would initially react and make decisions aside from pure data testing.
This was our earliest documented beginning, as we analyzed the competition, tested the data and slowly improved our final concept using all of the gathered information. This phase is highly recommended by field and industry experts for many other industries. The mission was a total secret, here’s how we were able to do it. We called it, ‘Mission: Faux Brand’.
Mission: Faux Brand
Initiate Mission: Faux Brand
The secret mission was under way. The following information has remained internally confidential from within our organization until publicly released for documented purposes.
LOGO – The first thing that we did was create an alike logo image similar to the one that we would be officially releasing and using to do business in time. This assisted at the sheer privacy of the objective, while garnering public attention. We had already drafted our finalized image design for logo brand logo for permanent commercial business use, we just took it, altered the text font, tweaked some smaller details, stretched the image and changed the name of the brand.
NAME – The second thing that we did was create an alias name that we would use to create a similar and distinct alignment and association similar to the one that we would be officially releasing and using to do business in time. This supported the bold perception of the goal, while creating awareness publicly. We had researched all registered business names and popular keyword search terms to generate enough traffic and initial recognizable attention with signal markers, that it was able to work with the logistics and measurements that were used to conduct statistical understanding of data.
WEBSITE – The third thing that we did was create an alternate website and domain address that we would use similar to the one that we would be officially releasing and using to do business in time. This mirrored the traffic that would be driven from the social media platforms with organic social content to test and better understand the reactions and actions of social media users, competitors and locals taking notice. A simple yet effective website was designed and hosted live for the duration of the mission.
OBJECTIVE: Test the current climate of the market, test and analyze every registered competitor, test the reactions and actions of social media users, test the communication system on social media and overall understand both a new industry and market more efficiently using data, research and backing it with psychology, social-proofing the results and findings for enhanced measurements and early planning tactics to build a successful business long term and prepare for a smoother brand launch through the fog of war that is starting any business from scratch and proceeding to operate and maintain the business.
Salem Witch Trail Tours
Enter, Salem Witch Trail Tours.
The name of the would-be alias faux brand that we were using for our secret mission into the new local tourism niche to gather information and intel in advance to building our business in the field without data, blindly.
The mission took place in the center of the city of Salem, Massachusetts. The Salem Common.

Our Founder & Chief Executive Officer began to roll-out a highly detailed social media faux marketing campaign for our alias undercover brand.
The faux brand had every social application listed on the website that we were running traffic to with organic social media content. We didn’t offer any products or services outside of visually optimized content created for data and market testing. We ran this connected bridge of content from the Salem Common sharing each and every step taken, including the paperwork to register as a public tour guide in Salem, Massachusetts.
The faux brand videos opened and closed in a similar way to all of the others, covering a different step that a new business operator would have to take to start a tour agency from scratch. The videos were crafted to be accurate and easy to understand with no calls to action other than to follow along and learn more about Tourpreneurship.
Within each video, showcased the same visual location where the last video ended, over-and-over throughout the faux brand video series that connected seemlessly to the others in order for recommended steps for others to save them time. Each video began zooming out from a hat with an alternate logo on the front and each video ended with the hat near the American Flagpole in the Salem Common, similar to the one that we would be releasing and using for permanent commercial business use in time.

Our secret mission continued to reveal new information and data from the social media organic content that played its part in creating noise in the local tour niche marketplace for testing and feeling out the mechanics of what it would be like first-hand for better clarity on problems, to strategize sound oversight, professionally.
We were designing the pieces of content for community activity, creating repetitious elements that would be easy to remember and more familiarize our long-term audience and community for the one that we would be releasing and using for permanent commercial business use in time. The content for the faux brand was well-thought out for the lifetime of the secret mission, yet making it clear through-the-noise what they can expect long-term, yet ahead of the audience enough to maneuver the secret mission until the overall objective goal was met with enough data and early feedback with social media user responses and activity to get a strategic layout of what the market was like with a totally unique content system for the faux brand.
The consistency and customized videos switching between organic still image graphic posts and carousels with immense detailed graphics sold the cover identity of the faux brand to allow us to continue filming and monitoring user activity for reactions and actions to help us better determine what content performed for what demographic and from which post itself. The data from the back of the videos together with the single posts and carousel posts across the main social media platforms on the faux brand’s social handle was helpful to our vision for authenticity, building sustainable viewership and planning ahead with useful insights.
Creating a Tour Agency
I’m officially creating a new local walking and virtual Historical Tour Agency in Salem, Massachusetts.
We start here, at the Salem Commons Flagpole
at N Washington Square in Salem, Massachusetts.
The very first thing that you need to do this, is passion. What do you like, what are your interests and do you want to share that interest in a way that can resonate, motivate and inspire a larger audience? That’s a key differentiator when people consider recommending a tour experience.
Radiate abundance, magnify your unique perspective and tell other people about what value that you feel that you can bring to a topic or subject.
For myself, I like business, marketing, communicating, meeting with new people, sharing stories, getting their insights and building strong connections. Music, art, history, science, technology and architecture are among some of my own personal favorites.
I’m ready.
Witch City, I will be your host.

Our social media content for our secret mission replicated a similar repeatable system that closely resembles and imitated the one that we had in mind for the business that would be permanently used in time.
Each video was set around a different time period of the day, fluctuating each video between early morning, afternoon and night. The videos connected together with visual storytelling elements but had evergreen ability individually for stand-alone step-by-step guides on how others could begin their own tour business journey using the same steps that we were taking as a business.
The visible associations began to repeat themselves in each piece of branded content, making it simpler for our readers and viewers to get a clear understanding of what we do, without having to waste time to explain, by making the videos entertaining, consumable and understandable.
Making a Historical Tour Agency
I’m officially making a new local walking and virtual Historical Tour Agency in Salem, Massachusetts.
We start here, at the Salem Commons Flagpole
at N Washington Square in Salem, Massachusetts.
The second thing that you need to do this, is research your passion. Check out the scene, find out what’s new and begin to think of a strategy where you can leverage your abilities by making sure there’s a demand for it. The market is the market, if they don’t want it, that’s more of a hobby, not a business.
Check out the local competitors, evaluate what they’re doing and how it’s working for them. Ask questions, listen and take notes often.
For our brand, we prefer to utilize technology to maintain quality communication and clear understanding between our messages and our #community for clarity, and ensure that we’re responsive to feedback to bring our customers what they want.
Here.

During the secret mission, new problems arose from harassing actions to objective opinions, it became more and more apparent that there was an enormously wide variation gap between a core audience following on social media related to the topic of tours in Salem, Massachusetts. Our findings derived from learning the underlying perceptions and how it was absorbed through the social content material by listening closely.
Although it was out of our control, it was in our best interest to investigate the issues and problems, examining all feedback both positive and negative for further benefiting future strategies and analytical understandings long-term. It was by far the most-difficult audience that I ever had so many issues and problems facing through social media for any other niche and industry in the last ten years professionally until this point.
We carefully continued onward with the secret mission, enduring lots of negatively sharp criticisms, hate comments, toxic actions and more, all within a span of only a few days of posting on social media with the planned roll-out consistently.
Crafting a Historical Tour Agency
I’m officially crafting a new local walking and virtual Historical Tour Agency in Salem, Massachusetts.
We start here, at the Salem Commons Flagpole
at N Washington Square in Salem, Massachusetts.
We begin now, at the bandstand gazebo next to the flagpole, we can use it to build our #community.
The third thing that you need to do this is discipline, because the next thing to do is file all official paperwork for your tour guide application and license. Check all of your own local, state and federal laws within your area so that you can access all of the applicable information for your mission.
Ensure that you have all of the updated and necessary identification required for the application process, and consult with your lawyer if necessary.
As our brand files our own official paperwork for authorization, we’re going to include all of the needed documentation.
Our community is strong.
Witch City, I will be your host.

Statistics from the back of the social media content helped us understand more than a few things all at once during the secret mission, from demographics to which slides were clicked off of the most, and it all helped us use data to see the new local tourism niche market more clearly to anticipate solutions faster to the new emerging issues and problems.
The initial roll-out started to pick up traction as the social media content continued to garner more and more attention, viewers that enjoyed one piece of content were immediately more-likely to check out some of the other pieces because of the story-telling features that inter-connected.
This translated into future brand content strategies based on what kept viewers and readers engaged and interested and what seemed to set off reasonings for hateful comments, where we felt the content material was positive, educational and entertaining. The social media accounts recieved hundreds of social media followers within only a few days.
Naming a Tour Agency
I’m officially naming a new local walking and virtual Historical Tour Agency in Salem, Massachusetts.
We start here, at the Salem Commons Flagpole at N Washington Square in Salem, Massachusetts.
We begin now, at the bandstand gazebo next to the flagpole, we can use it to build our #community.
The fourth thing that you need to do this is name your business, as it is a requirement to proceed through the application process and official paperwork that was mentioned in our last video.
Think out of the box, because there isn’t one. Position your business for success with the right name. The easier something is to think of, the easier it is to remember and the simpler it is to buy from your brand.
Our brand name was thought-out and planned to bring the people of Witch City an amazing and consistently professional experience.
Our brand name is born!
Our brand community is alive.
Witch City, I will be your host.

The viewership began to rise as the video content was posted among the single posts and the carousel posts. Although we had no offerings listed, the website traffic reached it’s peak with interest, even some visitors signing up to our faux brand blog that would never happen.
More of the right people and businesses began t show early support by following our faux brand social accounts and liking the pieces that they consumed, which was both a major signal to the social media platforms that the content was worth distributing to more people, but also to our efforts that our choice-style seemed to at least be cutting-through-the-noise enough to resonate as authentic.
Arguably, one of the most-daunting parts of business are the early criticisms, problems and mounting responsibilities, so we professionally used psychology within our faux brand social media video content to build major trust with our viewers and followers online. We reverse-engineered what is strongly associated with trust building and created it publicly with great intention to be remembered, simply and easily while sticking out from the market.
Forming a Historical Tour Agency
I’m officially forming a new local walking and virtual Historical Tour Agency in Salem, Massachusetts.
We start here, at the Salem Commons Flagpole
at N Washington Square in Salem, Massachusetts.
We begin now, at the bandstand gazebo next to the flagpole, we can use it to build our #community.
The fifth thing that you need to do this is form your business, as it is a requirement to proceed through the application process and official paperwork that was mentioned two videos ago.
Do what serves you most, strategize the simplest way to align your goals into an executable plan.
Our brand is starting from scratch for the people and felt it was best to get the business started with a sole proprietorship. Most tour businesses naturally gravitate toward an LLC as they grow.
Our business is hereby formed!
The adventure into business begins.

As more attention grew to the faux brand’s social handles across the internet, people just discovering our brand in the first few posts began to reach out with positive private messages and we even received a fw event invites for our non-existent immitation brand. Our secret mission to learn more about the new industry and market began to become more noticably clear as we progressively approached our brand efforts.
We monitored how observantly different this video series was in retrospect to any business, so we thoroughly enjoyed the arcing theme for human touch with leadership included. Although initially designed within our faux brand social content material, the techniques compounded by more and more data, assisted our long-term vision for meaningful content material for community building.
We didn’t implement a platform-to-platofmr strategy, although the video content was edited to fit the different social platforms, respectively.
Registering a Historical Tour Agency
I’m officially registering a new local walking and virtual Historical Tour Agency in Salem, Massachusetts.
We start here, at the Salem Commons Flagpole
at N Washington Square in Salem, Massachusetts.
We begin now, at the bandstand gazebo next to the flagpole, we can use it to build our #community.
The sixth thing that you need to do this is file your business EIN number, as it is a requirement to proceed through the application process and official paperwork that was mentioned three videos ago.
Finishing this step completes all of the necessary official documentation that you’ll need to begin.
Our brand is filing all of our paperwork right at the beginning. We recommend this, because you can keep moving and working on other things while the documents take time to go through processing.
Our business is registered!
The initial setup paperwork is complete.

The positive and negative comments stopped coming in as frequently, noticing the platform’s respective behaviors with interpreting our content and serving it to a more appropriately-responsive audience. The problems however, didn’t slow down as abruptly.
We continued to recieve very toxic and hateful messages, some in different forms among the entire faux brand’s listed available information. Light pranks, fake voicemail messages among many suspicious emails and threats inbounded during the secret mission. We had to continue in faux brand positioning, bravely testing the depths of the new local tourism niche market.
Curious onlookers in-person during filming inquired about our doing, in which they were told a research study.
Protecting a Historical Tour Agency
I’m officially protecting a new local walking and virtual Historical Tour Agency in Salem, Massachusetts.
We start here, at the Salem Commons Flagpole
at N Washington Square in Salem, Massachusetts.
We begin now, at the bandstand gazebo next to the flagpole, we can use it to build our #community.
The seventh thing that you need to do this is decide on whether or not your tour business needs to be insured, and if so, which of the options best suit your needs for coverage.
This step isn’t necessarily required or recommended, depends on what you’re providing and where.
Our brand is opting out of insurance coverage, and adding liability waivers for all of our tours. We recommend this locally, as you aren’t required to have it, and startup costs can mount before you begin to create a new income.
Our business is protected!
We’re ready for the rest.
Witch City, I will be your host.

Our secret mission continued as we collected more and more information about the new local tour niche market, focusing on identifying ways to solve more problems, easier. At this point, the platforms began to understand what type of audience we were looking for from the amount of consistent content that was now available with frequency. This made it much easier for our content to be distributed to more of the right people.
The data continued to tell us what content was working, what content was performing and what content was driving traffic to check out our website. We began to take detailed notes of each problem and layer similar occurrences into categories that we’d note down as new issues emerged from or secret mission endeavor. The moving parts that we could control were working well together in motion, allowing us to proceed.
The subtle cover of the faux brand was enough to trigger and observe real time reactions, evoked emotions and actions or inactions by social media users with social content. This helped us further examine the activity and behavior of those that chose to interact with the faux brand content, allowing us to get a better idea of whether or not that particular user was an account that we would deem further away or closer to our ideal, dream audience.

At certain points during the secret mission, the problems became more of a fluctuating pattern with varying social media user behavior and reoccurring behavior profiles. We were able to prevent some minor ones from escalation once they seemed to follow the same traits and characteristics of previously encountered problems and situations.
The social media handles of our faux brand now had a total of 500 followers in total across the respective platforms, and the story-driven strategy did prove to boost the audience watch retention higher than average, we felt this was remarkable for a would-be unknown startup brand posting organic social media content with a local aesthetic.
The problems and situations persisted, though they didn’t cause any further interferences or confusion and were dealt with swiftly, allowing us to continue with our secret mission into the new local tourism niche market. Our plan was beginning to take shape. The fruits of our labor started to pay off.

Our secret mission remained undetected, as we continued to learn more intel and detect early problems without losing traction toward our overall objective. We were already compounding data from previous social content posted to our faux brand handles and overlaying it to produce much-more effective pieces of content back-to-back for quick comparison to maintain direction through the unknown.
We received a few more harassing inbox messages through some of the social apps, even one from a large competitor, unironically with a nationally-historically known bad reputation. Events such as this as why we chose to plan ahead and use a faux alias to garner attention, which helps us navigate business operations closer toward those that are aligned with our core values and further away from those that are unaligned with the same core values. Most of this was setup to navigate for information and situations.
The content pieces were beginning to compound viewership as the video series made its way toward the end, which we credited to the style of story-telling and educational entertainment making business information easier to understand and creating a social presence that encourages to motivate with accurate information and transparency for credibility building. Even the celebration of our faux brand’s non-existent Grand Opening that didn’t happen, was pre-curated to deliver the finalized emotionally evoking feeling that it was official, happening and in real-time.
Grand Opening a Historical Tour Agency!
Light the skies, Salem!
Our covert psyop into the new local tourism niche market for intel, information, competitor analysis, field testing and data had reached the end of the roll-out with the social content having taken the audience from point A with something, transforming them to point B with something, in the case of this secret mission, a public tour guide and registered business operator in Salem, Massachusetts.
We began to release the final pieces of content engineered to maintain our silent objective and remain obscure enough for the sake of early testing but rememberable and recognizable enough for long term audience building, once the time was right, when we would release this to our business community.
This was closely getting to the end of filming and media handling, allowing our audience to get a fast-edited version in different forms of what we wanted them to take-away from it and most importantly remain a total secret, with small and sublte hints that could be easily-understandable at much later points in time.
Let’s recap our first series into business, The Beginning.
We break it all down step-by-step, as we build our brand for the people with our #community.
The key to success is not one that you can simply copy or have made, often times doors will slam shut and you’ll have to forge a new way in.
For every door that closes, you’ll have to learn how to create a new opportunity around the blockade to your dreams, even when no one else notices when you’re struggling.
You’ll be kicked, clawed, scratched, chewed, harassed, spammed, projected at, spit at, emulated, used, hated and potentially sued. Most people are not operating from an abundant mindset, you can’t expect them to understand your path. This is not for the weak.
In the end, you’re all you’ve got. Eventually, they all leave. No one wants to see you win, pretend like you’re losing until you’re ready to say check mate.
It’s not popular to win, put in the real work to achieve success. Do it anyway, do it loud and do it twice.
If you’re crazy enough to come to Salem, or chase your dreams, we want to connect.
They’ll call you crazy, just keep sacrificing and make sure to succeed.

Let’s create that full life!
Look back at it, Salem!
Our secret mission went according to plan and within reasonable expectations, supporting what elements of our long-term business venture required early-on and delivering on the results that we were looking for, by gathering more information and testing the new local tourism niche market in Salem, Massachusetts.
The problems were mitigated over time and showed us new options for dealing with unexpected situations that we would not have gotten to experience without encountering the opportunities as they happened in real-time. Planning helped us track a route to navigate as a business to market our offerings in the future, which we consider to have been an invaluable experience, overall.
The detailed level of notes, observations, conversations started and problems solved allow us to be able to share the events in chronological time order with valuable key take-aways and lived in experiential situations that can potentially save the time and effort of another aspiring operator.
Let’s uncut our first series into business, The Beginning.
We cut every piece up and summarize each part, as we build our brand for the people with our #community.
The most crucially-valuable asset to any entrepreneur is time. It is something that can’t be bought, replaced or changed, and eventually that clock runs out.
For every action in life, you’ll come to notice that there is always an equal reaction and an opposing reaction, much is true in business.
The two aren’t so different from one another, especially in 2024 online, everything is very connected.
Not everyone in life is worth your time, it’s the most-precious finite material in the universe.
Time moves faster than you believe it does, it’s always effortlessly driving forward, altering everything in its path.
Its never too late to go after more of what you want, but in order to succeed at business, you must learn to appreciate and value your time.
If you value your time, others will learn to value it as well.
People treat you how you treat yourself.
The way that you approach something, is the way that you approach anything.
Follow your passion, ignore your emotions and stick to the plan.
Those who use their time to create money using less energy, build wealth.

Let’s put in work!
At least you got to witness, Salem!
The final video of our secret mission, allowing us to secure and achieve total discretion publicly as this would be the last visual element of footage recorded that would be posted to our faux brand handles. Our actual plans were focused, while building trust at the core topic of starting a tour agency from scratch that would later become clearer as time moved forward in our business journey, with just enough subtle non-verbal signals to not alert our true positioning, yet.
We had maintained a low enough profile to deter any real objections, solve real issues that would become regulatory practices, experience what the actual market was looking for and how they truly interact and respond and hidden enough to continue with the bigger picture for the real building operation, all while acquiring public trust, attention and brand awareness.
Planning the faux brand strategy out was one thing, executing the strategy solo behind the scenes and in the trenches was another entirely different perspective. Whenever you don’t know what to do to start your own business, it’s usually a good idea to take constant action until the next step in your process is shown through insight.
Some of the faux brand pieces of content were specifically created for keyword search terms, strong associations, trust building, community activities and events, credible business information, entertainment and initial brand awareness and social media attention for the objective of gathering more information, intel, data and testing the new local tour niche market for long-term use.
Let’s close out our first series into business, The Beginning.
We summarize each step in high detail, to the point, as we build our brand for the people with our #community.
Attention is the new currency, and it’s incredibly valuable to lean into for your brand.
Attention isn’t cheap, easy to gather and more difficult to carry, maintain and keep it simple to understand.
If you’re not generating thousands of new impressions every day for your business, then your business cannot be profitable online.
The market determines the value of what you have to offer, those that understand how to get closer to their ideal audience, will understand them.
If you listen and ask, you can learn what they care about.
People want to know who’s behind the brand, they want to connect in more ways than just one. Creating that communication is vital to a brands longevity.
Lead with value and let them chase you.
Create demand by building interest.
️Everything has beauty, and most people will never see it.
Bet on you when no one else does, double-down on your own happiness. Choose to be the selector to make it happen, rather than try to seem like it for others. They don’t care.
You’ll always be at your strongest when you’re at your calmest level of focus.

If you don’t know, now you know, Salem!

Our faux brand created 71 unique pieces of content, totaling over hundreds of hours of preparation and strategical planning, 14 hours of filming and recording video content, 26 hours of writing copy, 41 hours of designing creative, 16 hours building and designing a website, 4 hours of creating the logo, naming and setting up social accounts.
Of the 71 Salem Witch Trail Tours faux brand pieces of content:
29 Videos – Total Watch Time = 2 Hours, 0 Minutes and 8 Seconds.
272 Images – Total Read Time = 3 Hours, 18 Minutes and 38 Seconds.
Mission: Faux Brand was a total success for our brand early on, before anyone knew that we truly even existed as a future business entity. All gratifications were put on hold, all the data, information and intel were categorized and digitized for future research.
Nothing went unused, nothing went unseen, and nothing went unrecorded and undocumented, giving our business a vantage point from first-hand experience and critical strategy planning to pave the way for our future business endeavor, smoother and easier with less confusion about real expectations, conversions, engagement and social media user behavior and activity.
Our secret mission lasted until August 31, 2024 when our last social media post went out for the faux brand, as we wrapped up filming content in the Salem Common, having recorded hundreds of hours of data and analytics from the efforts with thousands of website visitors, including hundreds of social media followers. This is when we launched the next initiative for the building phase, we called it, ‘Building Wicked Salem Tours’. We reached out to everyone following our social accounts of the updated business name and asked them to follow along. Here’s how we did it.
Exit, Salem Witch Trail Tours.
Building Wicked Salem Tours
Enter, Building Wicked Salem Tours.
Our business building plan enveloped into fruition with hundreds of hours of work and research, it was time to reveal our mission. We immediately began to post clear and concise slides with why we switched social handles to @BuildingWickedSalemTours, explaining in a few words that this was the name of our business, without making any direct statements about anything else at all.
We started testing out final-editions of what would later be used permanently for commercial business use, from organic social media content material to logo variations with different colors and even some educational content about content strategies for startup businesses online.
Our plan was in motion, and we began to cut back on all editing and polishing of outbound media, and started to work vigorously, posting the work in progress with raw video footage daily, showing each and every step of the way that we were designing and building our business and why it’s beneficial long-term to follow along and get behind our business.
We’re doing something no one else on the internet is doing, right now.Who’s actively building their dreams, out loud, across-the-web, right now?
We’re thinking of more ways to make history and break records with our community, to empower more entrepreneurs to connect.
We haven’t even started.
Sacrifice more, work more than most, let them think you’re losing.

️Make History • Break Records
We shared insights and first-hand experience through-the-noise with documented-style recordings, clips, notes and walkthroughs about the way that we were designing our business, from website to brand. We didn’t leave much out, in terms of ways others could learn, pick-up and get going for their own business journey online.
The follower counts, metrics and data analytics for this period of time for our business building efforts online were not critical or analyzed nearly as often as usual. We allowed the viewers to start to understand how even a simple and seemingly boring business can take enormous amounts of effort, time and energy to see through. This separates those in business that are dedicated about their craft that choose to go through the problems headstrong and those that will be prevented from the obstacles that lay ahead of any business endeavor.
Because the content wasn’t optimized for the social media apps or edited in any way, the pieces of content didn’t necessarily perform well, though they allowed us to bridge certain pieces of valuable content with expertise and inside looks for more B2B style content in the future, as well as tap into an entirely new market and pol of viewers, readers, subscribers and followers that want to learn more about business online.
We began to use the data that was available to us online to begin to correlate our business idea into an actual, conceptual layout. We studied industry leaders and largely successful tour brands and tour agencies from all over the world, critically learning fragmented pieces of useful information ad backing it with psychology to begin our own design from total scratch.
Our brand core values started to naturally shape itself into a strong brand that we could begin to build off of, with the way that our road ahead started to become more clear, more difficult and more problematic. Issues and occurrences continued to start once again, from our social media presence and public visibility, stemming from light threats to competitor harassment, publicly and privately.
We continued to focus all of our efforts into producing raw and unedited content material showcasing the true workload that it takes to start a tour agency from scratch, realizing that our decision was garnering more of the right kinds of attention, as local small businesses, museums, professionals and experts started following along our social handle and engaging with some of our content.

@WickedSalemTours
Most of our time was dedicated to creating a website worth visiting that conveyed trust, built for our customers. The first layout of the original pages and keymap gave us a starting area to work off of, to ensure that we gave as much necessary information to future visitors of Salem, Massachusetts as possible while offering incentives and options throughout the website, even with added B2B options and club membership tiers.
The original design was very basic, as we had to continually add new pages, update the new keymap and restructure the menus to be more efficient and pleasing to the eye. We focused primarily on building all of the website pages required first, then moving onto designing them accordingly. This approach gave us the bandwidth of what information we would be serving to our audience with organized, categorized and digitized structure.
We fully designed and built the initial pages that we felt would be the most visited during this time period, as we continued to lay out a macro plan that would make it more beneficial for our goals, often realigning, pivoting and re-phrasing to add more professionalism to the overall message and how it was interpreted and absorbed. The early credibility building was entirely necessary and allowed us to prepare more paired strategies in the future, having initial ground to begin with.
Live from the trenches, meetings all day with both my remote team and CRM partners to discuss creating our club membership.
It’s all here, minus the designed-finished look, in moving parts.
Here’s what I’d like it to be:
A paid club membership, with the most-popular New England term to ever exist- Wicked.
It helps our business navigate and grow considerably, with a recurring income stream that’s much more dependable and predictable than tour bookings alone.
Ultimately, it will sell itself. One member will tell more about it. This helps our advertising effort and marketing budget- especially as an early stage startup.
Within, rebates, exclusive content, behind the scenes, private podcast access, local deals and perhaps garnering attention and membership will create more opportunities to do things with other local businesses.
It’s simple by both design and nature, not-so-simple hooking up, fleshing out and creating it from scratch.
Not sure when it’ll be completed, but if you’re interested in checking it out when it’s ready, let me know below and we’ll personally send you an invite when it is.

Everything was documented during the build, even the delays and unseen issues that occurred, everything helped build early credibility and audience trust, and with content creation and online business, anything can be profitable along our business journey.
Some of the most time-consuming unknown issues causing delays were the most costly and detrimental to early building the business that couldn’t be controlled or have been predicted to avoid, so recording the processes and work around became valuable for future use, or to educate others with our own work arounds and problem-solving techniques.
Each step forward was progress, and at times there were more uncertainties and more problems than there were solutions, by taking consistent action with what we could do in the moments that we could, with what we had, alleviated most of the issues that otherwise may have been more problematic having not taking vast amounts of immediate action.
Service uniforms have been ordered.
Won’t catch me posting without repping our brand!
The technology is so amazing now, that the product itself can be listed in the content and appear as a clickable link.
This exclusive Founder’s Edition – Service Uniform won’t be up for grabs, but we will offer similar gear for our supporters to Rock Wicked!
That’ll stick us out in the sea of sameness and make it much easier for our community to spot our content.
Can’t wait to see how they come out!

Our brand and community -forward story-telling format in video, sometimes with music for an overall global audience reach to follow along and easily understand while evoking emotions rather than pushing sales, helps us fluidly carve out our own unique and creative lane to do business in the tourism and hospitality industry, in Salem, Massachusetts long-term.
Filming for the Prologue is complete!
On Sundays, I like to chill-out and take a day out of my business which helps me gather perspective and energy for the next week moving forward. I keep it light.
The walk back on the street from town to our office is one of the most-calming, quiet and relaxing streets I’ve even seen, sheer beauty. There’s a lot of historical residences but not much to show, so it’s not usually walked by tours.
Although this series of videos acts as our introduction to our brand, it also doubles as keywords for the business side of things to rank in searches, such as the titles for the last three videos, i.e. Wicked/Salem/Tours.
It gets deep, and improves as we grow to benefit our audience to build a strong, loyal and active community around our brand with other brands, businesses and entrepreneurs. Future video series are business related. We’re aiming for viewership.
Today, I’ll be editing these two final videos for this series.
Hope you enjoy!
